PCV / Intake Manifold / Cleaning 850

I removed the intake manifold off of my 94 n/a 850 and the pcv system as well. I have read that the bottom port must be cleaned before I put the new one back on. I cleaned it out and felt myself hitting some metal in the back. Is that normal? Also, I put a coat hangar in there and pushed it in about 6 inches. Is this enough or should I do more? I don't want to put it back together just to do it again. Also, whats the best method of cleaning the intake manifold? Any suggestions.

Just clean off the crud that forms on the bottom half of the hole. Yes, you should hit metal, and keep the coat hanger out of there.

I clean the manifold with carb cleaner, but anything will do. Engine degreaser works.

When you start to put it back together, after the PCV lines are on, loosely attach the bottom bolt for the manifold support bracket. After the manifold is in place, attach the top of the support bracket and then reach down and home the lower bolt with a ratchet. Now that you know where it is, just do it by feel.

Thanks Klaus. Did I ruin anything with the hangar? Where does that bottom port lead to?

No, you didn't hurt anything. But there are oil passage pipes, O rings, and other nice parts that object to being poked :>)

Before you start driving again, do an oil change. You knocked a bunch of gunk down there.

If you're not driving it "like its stolen," are you really driving?
