I have had my 850R for a few years now and well my fuel mileage sucks. I am just wondering what everyone else is getting with there 850's. So if you could let me know what you are getting and the avg MPH the dash says bc that makes a difference aswell. And what have you done to the engine and driving style? I am just wondering is it me and th way I drive and engine upgrades.

850 fuel mileage - Motor Trend long term test cars figures 850

Ram HD 2500 truck 10.6
Honda Crosstour 20.9
Subaru Legacy GT 22.9
Buick Lacrosse 17.0
Suzuki Kizashi 24.3
VW Routan 18.3
Hyundai Tucson 21.8

I get 22-24 around town and 28.9 on a trip from Massachusetts to Minnesota with a FULL load going out with our '96 855R - and I love to beat everyone away from toll booths! (I keep the sales slips from every gallon I buy)

What are you getting?

Moter Trend, Car&Driver, Road&Track, all use combined mpg figures. Remember, they have multiple drivers and beat the cars to death.

I only got 27mpg from the Twin Cities to CT, and 25mpg on the way back (I had a desk strapped to the top) with a prettty good headwind.

These days I only get 26 highway and 20 around town (combined). But the other day I looked at the computer only 75miles after reset and I was getting 14mpg, of course that was with short trips and in 2nd gear!

I blame oxygenated fuels for my loss of 20%.

My '94 850 wagon is automatic and gets 20 - 21 mpg in city. I do miss my '85 245 with manual trans, got 28 - 30 mpg!

1995 turbo sedan, 205k miles, bought it new with 19 miles.

City driving in downtown Chicago: ~ 17 mpg.
Highway driving at 80 mph average speed, lightly loaded: ~ 27 mpg.
Highway driving at 80 mph average speed, fully loaded: ~ 25 mpg
Highway driving at 100 mph average speed, lightly loaded: ~ 24 mpg

Between year 1 and year 16, there seems to be a drop of 3-4% in the mileage, as time went by.

Don't forget its not just the age of the car
Your mileage would suffer when they started adding alcohol to the gas.

I've got an automatic - NA and on city driving its 22, mixed is 25-27 and all highway hits 30-31. Last fill up was 25.5.. I go with 93 as its .20/gal more at Sam's and I get 1-2mpg better off it than 87 (so it works out in my advantage..)

If you're not driving it "like its stolen," are you really driving?

New to me '95 854 Turbo with about 200,000 miles.

With my first two tanks of gas (87 octane) I averaged 22.7 mpg. Wish it was more, but I'm not complaining.

I would guess that is with 10% - 15% highway miles, wintertime in CT. I don't have an average mph but I have a very light foot. No fast starts and generally between 65 - 70 mph on the highway.

It's winter around here, so getting 18mpg around suburban driving is not so bad. Remember, 10% of your gasoline is alcohol, and if you are using regular, all bets are off.

If you are getting 16 around town, and the front O2 sensor is as old as the car, time for a replacement. The sensors get coated and slow to respond.

'95 855T, 144,000 miles, Stock.

Worst, 12mpg average over 650 miles towing a 3,500 lb load from VA to Memphis.

Best, 25mpg on the same route from Memphis to VA with just me and a suitcase.

Average, 18mpg city with a short 6 mile commute to work.

I can buy a LOT of gas with the money I'd spend on a new, or newer, more efficient car.

Erwin
