Positive camber ? V70-XC70 1998

Both front tires show premature wear on the outside, as if camber was too much on positive side. Is it adjustable on this car?

    I had the same prob last year. I ended up replacing every suspension component before I finally gave in and changed the struts. They were in MUCH worse shape than I suspected. These cars have very good front springs and do a good job of masking dead struts on an old car that you expect to feel a bit sloppy. If your mileage is above 150k or so I'd start seriously thinking about doing your front struts.

    FWIW the alignment guys /should/ check carefully and tell you if your struts are bad but it's been my experience that most either don't know how or don't care. While Iwas chasing this problem replacing components left and right I specifically asked at least two different alignment techs to check the struts for me and I know now that they didn't/couldn't.

      Unfortunately many tire shops don't do alignments well. They may have the equipment but it requires experience. Also, VOLVO specs for this car are not correct. People have gone with zero on toe, and gotten more mileage of of tires. Factory specs only get around 15000 tops, regardless of tire brand. Since Camber is not adjustable, folks just start replacing parts...you may as well keep replacing tires. It costs the same ...

        Hi Tom, I'm very interested in your opinion on the alignment specs.

        What makes you say the toe specs are wrong?

        Are the manual specs different than the factory specs?

        What do you think they /should/ be and why do you think that? Any drawbacks to your approach vs Volvo's manual specs?

        I have the following info which I obtained from the Volvo manual:

          Experience shows that positive and negative toe causes premature tire wear. Trial and error if you will...Perhaps things would be different if camber was adjustable, but on this car, it is not.

    Toe in will do the same thing. Only and alignment will tell. I do not believe camber can be adjusted, but I have been wrong before.
