Rear brake squeal Do Rotors need replacing? 850 1995

I'm tired of hearing the rear brake squeal after replacing both rear rotors with Brembos, and the pads with Axis metal masters. Synthetic high temp grease on the back of the pads and pistons quiets the squeal temporarily, but then it returns. The pads still have good thickness. I am thinking of going back to the oem pad with built in shim. The question is whether or not to replace the rotors at the same time. These only have about 20k miles on them, but do have some visible grooves. Are the brembos as good or better than oems?

Re: Rear brake squeal Do Rotors need replacing? 850 1995

If those rotors aren't warped and you want quiet brakes, I'd suggest just replacing the pads ONLY with OEM. Often the problem with aftermarket pads is loose fitting (incorrect) clearance in the area where the pads slide and because of that, they vibrate and cause squealing (that or the material is too metalic, hard).

The newest OEM pads do not use shims anymore (have a rubber like coating) but we still put Volvos silicon brake paste on the backsides of the pads and never have brake noise complaints (not one in my 16 yrs with Volvo dealers).
