p03005 + no compression S70

my 1999 AWD started running rough and the CEL came on P0305.

Moved the coils and changed the plugs with no change. Did compression check on CYL 5 NADA. Did a umm leakdown test and it shows as the exhaust valve. Tried an Italian tuneup for maybe 10-15 miles running about 3k-3.5k.

The shop says the time to pull the head will be the same time needed to replace the engine. If it was a plane Id just pull the cyl, give the valve a whap with a mallet.

Any Ideas before I send her to the crusher.

Dave

Try a bottle of Seafoam sipped in through the vacuum line to soften the deposits. Then wait the prescribed time and do another tune up run. You can easily go 4-5K rpm in 2nd, if you have a highway to do it on.

BS on labor to replace head = to replacing engine with unknown.

Use any line that connects to the intake manifold. If you remove the throttle body cover, you will see a vacuum tree with a couple of spare covered nipples. Attach a small line to one of the nipples.

Just remember, there is enough vacuum at idle to suck up the entire bottle! That will break your engine, or a wrist pin, so dip the vacuum line in the bottle and let the engine 'sip' the liquid as you repeatedly dip the line at about 1 second at a time. Read the instructions on the bottle! Pour the other half of the bottle in the gas tank to help clean the injectors.
