Engine replacement V70-XC70 1998

1998 V70 wagon-Not Turbo- Considering purchasing this Volvo for repair, needs engine. Not interested in R engines this Volvo is an auto. trans. Will assume 2.o, 2.3, 2.5 will mate with transmission. Unsure about computer? If I find a suitable 2.5 and the original engine is 2.0 will I also have to swap out computer. Not too concerned about engine size, more about condition.
Thanks for any input, Greg.

Engine replacement V70-XC70 1998

The 1998 NA engine is a 2.4L. Usually the block and pistons are OK, it is just the valves that bend when the Tbelt breaks. If is a leaking head gasket, it is just as difficult to repair as bent valves, exccept you need to find out why the gasket started to leak - usually overheating.

Removing the head is a LOT less labor than removing the engine and not knowing what condition the used engine is in. But, if you do the labor, your only cost is machining the head and replacing a few valves(if needed).

The 2.3L turbo and 2.5L NA engines will fit, but the external plumbing is different, to say nothing about the computers.
