"Alarm system requires service' V70-XC70 2005

Lately, I have twice returned to my locked my car, and when I start it I get a message:
"Alarm system triggered - check vehicle"
and also
"Alarm system requires service"

The second time this happened, the alarm was actually going off as I returned to the car.

I don't *need* an alarm system, though I like remote locks. Any clues on how many sensors there are and if there is any chance under the sun of resolution without visiting the stealer? It's like the car knows the CPO warranty expired 4 monoths ago.
Thanks, Don

Hello, The only resolution I've ever read is to open the alarm unit, pray that battery "acid" hasn't damaged the circuit board and change it's lithium batteries. I think the alarm unit lives under the right fender and you must peel back the plastic liner to get to it. Kira

ok - I found a thread on "another Volvo site", and it had a long thread regarding batteries leaking in what is referred to as the "siren module". It is located as you stated, under the fender liner of the front passenger's wheel, forward of the wheel.

Evidently, there is another component of the alarm system, the upper control module, and I don't know where that resides.

From what I read, some people have successfully repaired the module (I should be able to, as mine is itermittent and I'm capable of circuit repairs), and resetting the system appears to not require a dealer. There is a 3x lock/unlock sequence that appears to do it.

I'll dive in, and report the results.
Thanks again for the tip - I didn't see the hits elsewhere when I posted this.
Don

Wow - great information. So access to it is from the outside of the car, and I partially remove the fender liner. Do you actually remove the unit from the car, or work on it on? Is the cover designed to be serviced?

Thanks for this lead!

I would ask your local $ealer what he charges. I know the S60 has the alarm module between the fenders, not sure about the V70. The alarm has its own battery and I do not know where to get a replacement battery. If the circuit board gets acid on it, the entire thing needs to be replaced...
