Noise from firewall 850 1995

I have had this problem for nine months. You can hear the rattle very well from inside the car when you are on a bumpy road. It is a distinctive metal-to-metal rattle. It appears to becoming from the firewall area. The evaporator was replaced (VIP picked up the tab) about six months ago and I figured it would be tightened when they reassembled the dash...no such luck. When I roll down the windows I cannot hear anything. Any suggestions. I have checked the air ducks underneath the front seats. Thanks

    Just a guess... How's your upper engine mount bushing?

      Just had it replaced a couple of months ago....thought that would clear up the issue. I thought maybe it was a suspension or brake problem but I should be able to hear it from the outside. The sound is more from the lower fire wall on the passenger side.

        What about the link arms? This is very common if you haven't replaced yours yet.

        Another guess is strut mount.

          Yep, have your end links checked. Had the passenger side sway bar end link replaced last week that was causing this rattle/clunk on bumpy roads. If that's not it, then check the strut mounts next.

            Found the problem after nine months. I was checking out the hood hinges and found everything to nice and tight. I closed and tapped on the hood a various parts (by the hinges and locks) and noticed a rattle by the passenger side hood lock. I put a little duck tape around the U hook on the hood. I went for a test drive on a real bumpy rode and it was nice and quite. The rattle must have echoed through the hood and gave me the impression it was much closer than the front of the car. I slept very well last night. Thanks to everyone who responded. Never a dull moment when you own two Volvo's.
