Treatment for rusting frame and transmission cover 850 1997

Due to a battery leak over a year ago, I lost some white paint (its a white car) on some frame/subframe members beneath the battery near the bottom of the front left shock. Also the black paint is missing on some of my auto transmission cover. Should I try to clean and spray with Rustoleum, or just shoot it with WD 40, or? It will be very difficult to clean and paint properly due to difficult access.

Landn, I know its way too late now, but anytime battery acid gets on anything clean it with a soluiton on water and backing-soda. This goes for your hands as well. Lay it on thick and scrub away.

As far as the rust you have now.....there was quite a bit of talk here on the BrickBoard that a product caller "POR 15" did a outstanding job of sealing in rust. I think they have a web site, and I think IPD sells it also.

The rust converters work very well. Extend is one of the leading brands. You must paint over the rust converters because they chemically alter the rusty areas but do not seal the area.

In similar circumstances I have used Rust Converter, available at hardware stores. I rinsed very well first. Just apply it and it turns any rust black and stops the rusting process. Most brands state they can be painted over. Very easy to use.
