T6 question V70-XC70 2011

A friend of mine is contemplating purchasing either a new XC70 or an XC60. Maybe a T6 version. My question is does the T6 package include anything other than the Turbo engine? Her salesman said it does not. It's a 4k difference. IMO - that's a lot for a turbo.

Thanks for the help!

    2011 T6 follow-up... V70-XC70 2011

    Hey guys,

Well surprise, surprise. She bought the T6! Turns out a T6 in her color (silver) and with the options she wanted was coming into the local dealership so she bought it.

I might get to drive it this weekend...:)

I'll let you know what my impressions are.

Tell your neighbor that she needs to use at least 89 octane, 91 octane if she can afford it. Buying gasoline when the gauge gets to 1/3 tank might make it easier on the pocketbook.

The T6 is better on gas than the 3.2L, unless she keeps the throttle on the floor :>)

Plus free maint for 5 years!!

She's good about buying higher octane gas. Bought at least 89 octane for her old car - 98 V70 AWD.

I'll remind her about the free maintenance for 5 years. What a deal!! Plus she got a good discount too...

Free labor and parts, except for tires. I think it is for 5 yrs and or 60K miles. When you take if for a test drive, remind her to keep the temp in 'auto' all of the time, the climate control is better than trying to control things manually.

    T6 question V70-XC70 2011

    Good information, thanks guys!

My friend has pretty much ruled out the T6 because of the cost. She is a 53 year old woman so I'm not surprised.

If I were to spend that much money on a new car I certainly would spend a little more and get that great motor. I have a feeling you guys would concur...:)

    T6 question V70-XC70 2011

Don't forget the T6 model comes with a few different options beside the engine.
On the XC70, there's a few add-ons for the kids. The booster seats and the power child locks are nice add-ons. Then you get the wood inlays, the steering wheel upgrade, and the floor mats. They also come with 18" wheels compared to the 16" on the NA models.

    T6 question V70-XC70 2011

It is a fairly expensive upgrade, but it's a bit more than 'just a turbo' as you mentioned.

The 3.2l engine in the base model is a very different engine than the 3.0l turbo in the T6.

For starters the T6 is +60hp and +~100lbft torque, and that's not to mention how much sooner it reaches those numbers (~1500rpm for T6 vs ~3200rpm for 3.2l). Those engines are pretty different and the T6 is a pretty good performer. This is a newer incarnation of the old T6 and won one of the Ward's Best Engines spots this year. I believe they achieved much of their improved numbers in both fuel economy and power by switching to direct injection, which I'm just about positive the 3.2l does not have.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ward's_10_Best_Engines

According to the Auto123.com comparison here (http://www.auto123.com/en/volvo/xc70/2011/compare?id2=1116401902&carid=1116401901&id3=1116401903&tab=equipment) shows the T6 has the following options standard over the 3.2l :
    - leather seats
    - front and rear heated seats standard
    - 6-CD in dash changer
    - power glass sunroof

    More info gleaned from Volvocars.com:

    - integrated booster seats
    - hill descent control
    - power child locks, rear side doors
    - leather steering wheel
    - wood inlays in interior
    - floor mats
    - 18" wheels

Whether that stuff is worth the extra cash is of course up to you and your friend.
