Missing ECM-box cooling duct ? V70-XC70 2001

The cool-air-in duct for my ECM box, which is mounted passenger-side forward in the engine compartment, is missing, leaving a stubby tube protruding from the cover. I have inspected other similar Volvos and some S80s,too, and have found the same situation--no duct--so I don't know what it looks like or if it's required at all. Is this part important? Should I buy or improvise in clever Brickboarder tradition ? Thanks, 'boarders.

    Missing ECM-box cooling duct ? V70-XC70 2001

    Hi There....

I went in circles regarding this intake.. Spoke to couple
volvo reps and the consensus is there is no (HOSE) connection..

However I did see a part (listed) that attaches somewhere near
the radiator but now just cannot find the pn. I did added
a snokeral on my 2001 T5 going down near the fog light
    and grabbing air.....

Few days ago this intake was jammed with ice... my missus
driving home the CEL "Transmission need service" came on.

Longstory short.. was forced to take it to the dealer.. My TCM
module was shot.. they replaced it.. and took off my mod.. I cannot
believe that the commputer cntrl box overheatd ... in winter... May
    be just a unlucky fluke..

    Missing ECM-box cooling duct ? V70-XC70 2001

Just encountered this on another '01 V70. I had to find and replace that hose on my '99, but when I got to the '01, while the tube was sticking out of the box like yours, when I looked inside, I realized that the tube was closed off, so that even if I attached a hose, no air would flow into the box.

I'd closely inspect your tube to see if it is sealed or open. It may be that they didn't come with a hose for some reason.

The tube is open...I can poke a finger in and touch the unit directly inside.

Any flexible tubing will work, just so long as you pick the top of the grille for incoming air. P1 cars had ducting coming in from the right side of the radiator.

What is important is that the cabin blower is always 'on' because air is drawn in from the computer box to help cooling.

I'd like to visit this topic again. Can anyone authoritatively say that, YES, your car left the factory with
a cooling-air duct installed, or COOLING-AIR DUCT FOR ECM BOX NO LONGER ADVISED/REQUIRED FOR
          MODEL YEAR 2001 VOLVO.
