Four-C temporary off & AntiSkid Service Required Messages V70-XC70 2006

Hi,

first the AntiSkid Service Required Message appeared from time to time, then after a few weeks became stable together with 4-C temporary off.

The diagnostics of my dealer was:
Needs SAS module part # 30798583

He said that the two messages are related to eachother.
What do you think?
This looks like a big expense and I need to know how can I reduce this cost knowing that:

My XC70 AWD is 2006 model.
I can buy the part in the US (I am from Canada) but need to know a reliable source, I only found one so far, which lead me to think this code is perhaps superseded?

Is this something the dealer has to install or can I do that myself?

Eventually, it needs to be programmed by Volvo, which is the cheapest part of the process.

Thank you for your help.

Regards
Alex

      Hi there,

would you please tell me which Tasca Auto you referred to in your message?
Although it is now 8 months since you posted it, the Tasca Auto I contacted quoted me 225.00 $, so I guess it is not the same you mentioned in your post.

Any other suggestion is welcomed, so far the lowest price I got is 195.00 $

      Thank you!
      Alex

I don't know where you're located, is there a volvo indy nearby as a second opinion? I gather you're in NB, perhaps these guys are close enough to try.

Aah, I've read some stuff and determined what the SAS is (I figured it was the airpump.. its not, its the steering angle sensor..) and its integrated into the SWM (which is why its so expensive..) Here's more information than you ever wanted to know about the SAS. The good thing about that document is that it shows specifically what the part is supposed to be.

Anyway, I don't have the slightest idea how electrically inclined you are. I also have no idea what typically fails on the module, but if you want the pdfs on how to take the thing off and put it back in, I can supply that.

      Hi there,

      thanks for the Pdf.
I really wish I could have time to do the work myself, but I am just looking for the part in the US, it is really expensive here in Canada, I'll provide it to my mechanic.
I just want to be confirmed the P/N I have is correct for the SAS.
I guess I will be able to find it on the market as rebuilt.

      Thank you!
      Alex

Call xemodex, they might have the part.

I have no idea. My VADIS goes up to 2005, which lists 30679462 as the part (it says 2005-). I have no idea if that will work in the '06. Your part # gives results, so it too could perhaps be the right part. I assume you've found the part for about $210 USD online, that's about the cheapest I see it. You might also give Erie Volvo a call, though I have no idea if secondhand parts can be installed on these cars (the whole software thing makes me think its probably not possible..)

From what I read, they say its possible to re-calibrate the sensor before you have to change it. I assume your dealer tried it, but if they have not, it could be worth a shot.

Well, basically they said that they cannot communicate with the module any longer, it gives them a connection error, therefore they came to the conclusion that the module is faulty.

My dealer is specialized in volvo so I assume he knows his job.

Yes, the cheapest price I found in US is the around 212 $ which is still an awful lot.

I will look around on Ebay and see.

          Thanks for your good advice,

          Alex

      Hi,

      thanks for the good tip.
My question is: P/N # 30798583 does it correspond to the module I am looking for?
The reason why I am asking is because browsing the internet I cannot find much with this number, is maybe obsolete?

      Thank you
      Alex

Look on E-bay. There is a rebuilder in Mass. that is great. I get my ABS modules rebuilt for 100.00 or less.

    Go to www.xemodex.com
and call them. They are a reputable Canadian company and might be able to help.
