95 850T engine replacement 850 1995

have a chance to buy a 1995 850T station wagon with a burned out turbo and blown engine for $500. I can replace the engine and turbo myself (once I get one from the PNP). I figure $1500 max for additional work, assuming my labor is free.
Not only that, I'd have to tow it down to my neck of the woods for a 12 hour drive.
Is it worth the trouble?
thanks,
el raidman

Find out what the local scrap value is and offer $50 more if you REALLY want to do this. The car isn't worth much more than $1500 if that.

Southwest flies to Minneaoplis. For that price you could have this:

Of course, you would want AC. You could try a can of stop leak followed by a can of R134a, or replace the evaporator. No telling if the AC will work on the 1995 until you replace the engine. You could just rebuild the turbo if it is really 'blown'.

    Raidman,

I’d score it only for the investment quality return, but only if the body is nice.

Be aware that the 1995 transmission is weak.

      Goatman,

Wrong again. The 1993 transmissions are the bad ones.
