No crank/start No horn No Accs S70 1998

Probably an easy one. My son is at college and I cant get up to look at it but here are the symtoms.
Wont crank or even click
No horn or any accessories
I did have him disconnect the relay in the main fuse block for the air pump (it comes one when the key is on) and it shuts off so i know there is power getting there.
Interior lights do come on.
He has changed the battery with no luck.
Could this be the ignition switch?

Yes, it could be the ignition switch, but...

It is more likely that the wire at the starter is loose or it is corroded at the battery end.

Leave the idle air control motor connected. Because it runs when the key is in position II, the ignition switch is probably good.

Thanks. I will take a look at that when I can. Strange thing is it happened when his fog lights ran the battery down. Hasn't started since.

Ask your son if he can get a jump start from another running car. If the battery is less than 10V, the starter will not engage but there is enough to power the lights and small things.

I don't understand how fog lights can run down the battery, they can only be on when the headlights are on?? Perhaps the alternator is not pushing out 14.5V anymore, alowing the battery to run down.

Could fog be the same as the parking lights, that will stay on if you have the switch for them to be on (i really hate how that works.. I've drained the battery a couple of times with it before I just decided headlights on for safety..). It'll kill your battery overnight, I know from experience...
