front end clink...clink....clink V70-XC70 2000

Hello everybody. I have a 2000 XC. I am getting a speed related clink coming from the front of my car. I was certain it was a bad CV so I replaced the whole axle. Both sides, to no avail. The sound hasn't changed 1 bit. So the last thing I think it could be is something in the trans. Does anybody have any other possible ideas of what it could be?? Starting to go bonkers here. But one thing I have learned from this, replacing axles is a very easy job.

Thanks for any input,
Ken

Check the front CV joint of the prop shaft, see if it feels loose and make sure all of the torx bolts are snug. The tranny doesn't make clink sounds.

Have you shifted to N to see if the noise is still there?

Just checked what happened with shifting. Nothing. It didn't change at all. I did notice tonight that it does go away for the most part with good acceleration. It's got me stumped. I am going to get it up tomorrow and check the prop shaft. Please keep the ideas coming!!

Thanks,
Ken

Clink, clink, another drink, there's a barrel in the cellar when it's gone... V70-XC70 2000

Hi,

That is too F-ing scary man, I mean OMG how do you sleep at night!?!?

I'd guess it was the roller bearings in the wheel hub. Put the car on stands and with safety blocks start the engine and put it in gear. You can find the noise easily then.

I hope this helps the drinking problem! If you need a transmission though....
