tire suggestions for XC90 XC90

My mother's 2005 xc90 is ready for yet another set of tires. Anyone have any suggestions on all-season tires that have a decent service life and good performance/comfort? She has the 17" wheels, apparently. This is Virginia, so snow/ice are not much of an issue, and most of her driving is highway.

I am pushing for Yokohama Avid, having enjoyed the luxurious ride and superb traction on my 940. But this is a heavy, tire-eating beast.

    tire suggestions for XC90 XC90

I bought a set of tires for my car and learned a LOT from a just a bit of work researching online.

For myself I decided I wanted a 'rain' tire as I was buying summer tires and have a set of snow tires for winter. I find the regular 'all season' tires to be an unacceptable compromise - the blocky tread is crap in the rain and very loud all in the name of good snow/mud traction which I really didn't care about.

As it turns out the tires I bought were still called 'all season' though, because most of the real 'summer' tires use a high performance rubber compound (speed rating V or higher) which have lower mileage ratings than I wanted.

I decided I was looking for a 'rain' type tire with an H speed rating which I found was the best compromise of mileage and comfort/quietness.

I got a set of Hankooks super on sale that were pretty much exactly what I was looking for, with a nice 'rain' type tread pattern and 100km mileage rating. There wasn't any info on them on TireRack.com I think because they were a new model from Hankook or maybe one that's only available in Canada?

At any rate they were H405 Ventus HRII but it wasn't the Hankook name or the model that sold me - I simply went looking for the best buy on a summer/rain tire with an H speed rating because I knew they would deliver on the other metrics I was looking for ( UTOG, traction, temp, load, noise)

    tire suggestions for XC90 XC90

The rest of my family owns SUVs - an Escape, Liberty, and an MDX (similar in size to the XC90). My dad has put Michelin tires on all of them, and they seem to be the longest-lasting, smoothest riding tires of all that have been on them (the Jeep was AWFUL with the stock Goodyear tires on it). They are somewhat loud tires though, especially on the Escape.

I have Yoko's on my S70 T5 (also a very tire-hungry car) as of 5 days ago, and I love them.
