remote start S60 2002

same daughter has asked about receiving a remote starter for xmas. she'd like one that allows the car to remain locked until she's ready to get in.

just asking what success others have had and with what units. she lives in Indiana and winters get some snow but more ice.

i'm a bit cautious because have never felt this model-year's electronics were super stable, so wondering what issues could arise with this type of installation.

thanks in advance for any input.

Could be a lot of work. You would have to work around the immobilizer. It prevents engine start unless a chipped key is in or near the ignition.

I always wonder about folks with remote starts. 1 - can you see the car as you push the button? 2 - will the car stay started or if not, will the battery run down? 3 - How long will it be running without anyone in the car?

Besides the fact that the Volvo has bum warmers and window defrosters which cannot be activated unless the switch is engaged after start, is it just too cold to start scraping the window? Up here in the cold weather, it is better to keep the windows below freezing so that new snow doesn't stick when you drive.

Buy her a new ice scraper that has a mitten attached to it. I have one for my wife, plus an extended wand ice scraper/broom to get the snow off the roof, rear deck, lights, and hood.
