how much transmission fluid? S60

Hi All,
i don't have a shop manual for our S60 awd. I need to change the auto transmission fluid.

I have figured out that Mobil 3309 is the correct fluid.

I would like to order some. I live in VT (near western MA) I need to know:
1) How much fluid does the trans hold? (how much should I order--I have seen 16 liters!)
2) Any suggestions for ordering on-line.

Thanks,

Rod

p.s I am NOT going to flush just drain and refill (probably twice 5,000miles apart).

Draining from the sump is about 3.5 quarts (3 liters), but please measure what is drained so that you can refill the exact amount.

The last time I flushed my V70, it took 10 quarts before the ATF was clean.

Hi Klaus,
first I really appreciate you being there!

I have read that you are only supposed to fill from the dip stick hole and that this is hard to access. And that you can wreck the tranny if you fill by removing a bolt to fill it. What is your experience? And do you have any tricks for accessing the dip stick hole if that is the way you did it.

thanks,
Rod

You will need a funnel made for the tranny dipstick hole, it is extra long and narrow and can be found at your local autoparts store. The dipstick hole is the ONLY place you can add ATF.

For easier access, remove the air intake tube that goes from the top of the radiator to the air filter box. Pull it off the box first, pull it towards the engine and forward a little, then pull it out of the engine bay.

A little caution, the ATF will flow through the funnel very slowly, so patience is needed.

If you are going to remove the drain plug, make sure you have a new aluminum crush washer. It is the same size as the engine oil drain plug.
