98 S70 GLT central locking & gas door S70

I have been reading some of the archive posts regarding the fuel door switch not working. Mine went inop the other day along with the trunk switch. The door lock (rocker) switches only unlock the doors. Key in the Drivers door does Nothing!

Key fob works to lock & unlock all doors, also works to unlock the trunk. I manually open the fuel door from the trunk.

I took the driver's door panel off but could not get to the key cylinder without removing the mechanism.
current symptoms:
The door lock switch on the door (rocker switch, not button) will unlock all doors but not lock them. This is true for Driver & passenger doors, can be intermittently not working as well.

Driver's door switches for trunk & fuel door Don't work at all

Key turns in Drivers door with absolutely no effect!
Is the key tumbler to door mechanism a mechanical linkage? Or is it an electrical contact? The trunk lock appears to be both a mechanical linkage & I can hear the actuator function with the key.

Key fob works to lock & unlock doors & trunk. Key in trunk lock works fine.

So I think I am looking at a new Central Locking Control Unit, maybe a new relay, or a new Driver's door lock assembly.

Where is the relay on a 98 S70 GLT? Where is the Central Locking Unit?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Mike

There are 2 torx screws in the door by the handle that when removed will reveal the back of the tumbler. Make sure that the rod is connected to the tumbler and moves up and down with the key.

I suspect that the driver's window switch, which controls most everything, could be at fault. I would rocker the lock switch on the window control a lot to see if it is just corrosion in the switch. Same for the gass door switch.

Thanks Klaus - 98 S70 GLT central locking & gas door S70

Klaus,

I removed those screws one at a time & could not see much, did see a brass looking rod through the hole inboard of those screws. That rod does not move (rotate) at all with the key. It does rotate about 10 to 15 degrees with the door lock knob.

However, something must have made contact through all of the playing with it because now the Fuel Door switch (and trunk switch) both work again! And the lock rocker switches on both front doors can lock & unlock all the doors.

Key still does nothing in the door tumbler. I could not see clearly how the tumbler connects to the rod, it came free of it with both torx screws out.

I won't have sufficient time to take it all apart until next weekend (assuming I have to remove door locking assembly. Do you suspect a new door handle with lock tumbler is required, or is it likely fixable once I take it all out?

Also would I have to remove the door lock assembly in addition to door handle.

Thanks Klaus for the advice.
