Ok this may sound crazy but when I am leaving my driveway I hear my Volvo make a squeak upon stepping on the throttle and then a thump noise. Does anyone have any idea what this is?? The car does not run any differently just the noises.

    the thump noise only happens when first starting the car.
    I back out of the driveway and then when i move to drive and go forward it makes the thump noise once. It will not make the noise again until after I stop the car, when starting it up and moving out of park the first time only Weird :)

    It is more like a squeak when stepping on and off the gas. Thank you all for all your great answers. Could it be something that needs lubrication with the throttle?

      Your throttle does not have a cable, it is wireless. A noisy pedal will be noisy all of the time, even with the engine off. If it is, get your can of oil and go to town.

        And taking off the throttle body and giving it a good clean (and lubing the throttle shaft) isn't a bad idea. It does get dirty, so it needs a cleaning every now and then...

    The S belt was replaced at 86,000 it has 110,000. No vibrations of any kind at any speed. Just the squeak when stepping on gas and thump as I drive away.

      Check the tie rod ends. These are probably only good for about 60K miles and will allow a bit of flex in the front suspension when you get on and off it. Squeak...thump.

    When was the last time the serpentine belt was replaced? How about the tensioners? What about the engine mounts?

    Is there any vibration in the car either at slow or fast speeds?
