I noticed last night that my S60 has an idle rmp about 700 (a little shy I'd say). The idle speed is lower than my other two old bricks (about 850). Is it normal?

I searched Google images and saw at least two other 2009 S60 2.5T showing about the same idle rpm (at or a little below 700). Could 700 rpm be normal for the model year? Appeciate it if other 2009 or 2008 S60 owners could add their inputs.

Do you know what usually causes the drop in idle rmp? Could it be a potentially big problem? The car drives fine and accelerates very fast.

My car has not been registered yet; so I can not take it to a dealer to adjust it.

By the way, the car has a geartronic transmission.

This is a 2009, so the dealer is supposed to maintain it for a little longer. The idle speed is controlled by the ECM, is not adjustable, and your car is too new to develop vacuum leaks. Had your car been 10 years old, I would have suggested that the fuel pressure regulator vacuum is bad, but in your case it is probably a vacuum line that has fallen off - somewhere.

Get your papers and go to the dealer. Check the onboard computer in the dash and check your average MPG, it should be low. Make a list of what the dealer should check out.

I have not finished a tank of gas yet. But so far, it gets about 24 mpg (including about 150 miles that I drove at 85-90 miles per hour on my way back from PA). Is 24 mpg too low?

You asking for a ticket or two? Last time I was in Pa, the speed limit was 65. I routinely set the cruise at 8-10 over the limit on I routes, which translates to around 80mph west of the Mississippi, and I get around 26-27 at those speeds. at 85mph you should expect to get 24mpg or slightly less, and around 20-22 in city driving.

the speed limit is still 65. I guess I was lucky. That day, many cars were racing (most of them driven by dealers) so I was assuming they know that stretch of road (no cops). :-)

Idle RPM, when warm, in a '05 and newer S60 is about 700-750 rpm.

Idle rpm is not adjustable, is controlled by the ECM

I am confused now. I asked the service manager at the dealership during my last trip whether my car's idle rpm (~650) was too low. The answer I got was idle rpm for my car should be about 650 rpm for my car. By the way, my car has geartronic (not sure it has anything to do idle rpm).

our S60 2.5T 2006 has 650-700 rpm at idle and it has been that way from day 1 (i.e., 5 years ago). My understanding is that that is normal.
