Problem with front wheels and steering S70 1998

Hi all,(and Klaus)

I dont believe this, just had Bjorn inspected on Thursday, everything fine...only problem was new wiper blades... Today I get in.. and go to make a k-turn, it sounds funny.. like car is trying to accelerate....going in reverse makes a worse sound... continue on my drive to get home and still feeling like something is wrong, thought car was in winter mode, that is what if feels like.. feels like it wants to race....I feel like I have my emergency brake on, but do not.. front wheels feel like they are in a straight position and do not want to turn.. I get home, yet another K turn to park my car in front of the house and now I cannot turn,, it seems locked, almost hit curb but manage to straighten wheels to park..What is this?? is it possible E brake can be on and not showing inside vehicle.. is the power steering gone.. but why is it making horrible sounds.. to me it sounds like wheels are locked, and going in reverse making it worse... but it does not explain strange acceleration when driving.. need help.. so tired of car acting strange... everytime I bring it home from Mechanic.. coincidience??

Sadly
Di

I agree with goatman, check the brakes. With the car in N, block one of the front wheels, and raise the rear just enough to get the wheel off the ground. Then try turning the wheel forward and backward.

I just replaced my parking shoes, rotors, and pads on the rear wheels. The shoes were totally worn out, no padding left on one side and the other had pad material sitting on the brake drum. If one of your pads fell apart, that could explain it.

Also possible is that one of your calipers is stuck and a brake is always 'on'. This can be true for any wheel. Easy enough to check - drive around the block without using your brakes (shift to L for the ride), then carefully check each rotor to see if it is very hot - don't burn your fingers!

Just had a full brake job done in June, callipers, rotors, pads, discs.... could it be a power steering leak??......

A PS leak is not probable, but a U joint in the steering column could be freezing up. That would explain the difficulty of steering when the steering wheel goes past a certain point. A little grease will fix that.

But, the hard to go and especially reverse, soulds like the E brake shoes fell off their brackets and are now lodged on the rear drums.

    Hello,

You'd better lift those wheels son! Give em a spin while they're in the air and find out if the brakes are on!

I think you should order a new steering rack.
