I've got a number of Volvo 850 FAQs in the beloved PDF format.
Before they render, I get an error message about some missing
font "DDFMTX+Helvetica-Bold"

Has anyone run into this?

    Can't say that I have, but have you tried any other reader for them? Also do you have any other pdf's in that font, do they work? I wonder if Adobe corrupted the helvetica bold. Finally, these FAQ's have worked previously or did you just come upon them, because I wonder if someone converted them to PDF and didn't do it properly and left out something..

      Thanks for the response,

      The PDF files all complain first about the missing font Blah Blah....
      Then I read 'em OK, but the resolution isn't the greatest.
      But the resolution with PDF stinks anyway. PDF bites

        If you get the same error with every PDF you open, the problem is probably with your installation of the reader, you might try deleting and reinstalling. If it's just with specific files, that means the file depends on a specific font that wasn't included by whoever created it. Reader will substitute a similar font, but it could be that the creator used some unusual variation of a font that included specific characters that can't be rendered properly. Reader is a pretty amazing and useful program for free. Including high-resolution images makes for very large files: if the creator used low resolution images to keep file size down, is that Adobe's fault?

          Hiya,

          Sorry about my bad atitude about Adobe's PDF.
          It was foisted on the public after a huge advertising campaign.
          It is a half baked product and delivers unuseable resolution on
          some schematics that I need here. You cant read the component values.
          GRRRRR
          There's way better compression schemes out there,
          but they were'nt so heavily advertised.

          It seems that the 850 wiring diagram in PDF format is useable, and now
          I'm looking to get it printed so it isn't such a PITA to troubleshoot.
