Timing Belt Change 850 1993

The timing belt change went pretty well today. I didn't quite make the flat rate labor of three hours but only missed it by an hour. The pictoral instruction on the website http://volvospeed.com/Repair/timingbelt.php was extremely helpful.

I added an extra step and removed the serpentine tensioner to give a bit more access to the fron t of the motor. While that was out, I put it in a vise and opened it all of the way up, then drilled an 1/8" hole through two sides in alignment so it could be locked open with an allen wrench(short). That helped when I re-installed the serpentine belt.

Regards,

There should already have been 2 small holes to receive a very small allen wrench or nail.

      Timing Belt Change 850 1993

      Hi Klaus,

I've never seen one that didn't have a way to lock them open before this one. Perhaps it had been changed before. I could have saved the time and money on the timing belt if the PO had kept maintenance records instead of Schlitz Malt Liquor cans in the car. Everything had been changed and looked good. I replaced the belt anyway while I had it open.

      Regards,
