Steering rack 850 1995

My 855 has just been for its 110000 service and to checkout a slight

steering clunk.

I was hoping that this clunk was simply a worn balljoint, but the dealer

reckons that there's play in the steering rack itself. Not serious

enough to need seeing to just now, but it'll need fixing in the not

too distant future. He claims that the rack is non-adjustable and that

the whole rack would have to be replaced :-(

How many folk have had 850 racks replaced, and how much roughly did

it cost parts/labour ?

    I have the same problem on my 1993 850GLT. My mechanic recommended not to replace it until the fluid starts to leak out. He says a remanufactured rack will be $800 or so, I didn't ask him about labour.
