"Slippery' tranny V70-XC70 1999

Hi, All,

Can someone describe the "feel" of a slippery tranny? My v70 seemed to make more noticeable low gear shifts recently.

Thanks,
Paul

Is this a 4 or 5 speed? Check the fluid level with hot tranny fluid, it needs to be at or slightly above the full mark on the hot side of the dipstick.

There is software that will cause the tranny to downshift if the fluid gets too hot, but that usually happens when the car is fully loaded or pulling a trailer up hill in hot weather. You might try cleaning the radiator in a do-it-yourself car wash by spraying soapy water through the condenser and rinsing.

A slipping torque converter does not downshift, the rpms go up with applied throttle and the speed of the car doesn't increase.

Thank you, Klaus.

Based on your description, it seems the tranny is ok. Tranny fluid level seemed ok a couple of days ago. I might change the fluid this weekend.

Cooling system may have some problem since I had to top coolant at least a couple of times in a year. Small leak somewhere? I will try to wash the radiator soon.

I remember it is to push the green plastic thing towards radiator to release the lock before pulling the hose off, right?

Best,
Paul
