Car is Stalling 850 1994

Hi everyone.

My car stalls while driving. It'll do it if I'm stopped or moving. The gas tank is full. It does it intermittently.
It'll start again after a stall immediately most of the time. If it gives me trouble starting I'll let it sit there for 10-30 seconds, maybe crank it a few times and it'll start right up.

Thus far, after two stalls the car won't do it again.

I'm not sure where to start looking for issues here. I have yet to pull codes from the computer because it's raining a lot here in Fla.

Also, how does one determine when the fuel filler cap needs to be replaced on the car? It feels a bit loose/wobbly/abnormal.

I just got back from a trip and the car has mostly been sitting for 3 months. My aunt drove it maybe for 1 week during my absence.

Thank you all for any direction you can give me.

Problem solved. It was the relay. $69 from dealership or $37 from CarQuest. I went for the CarQuest deal and it seems to be OEM. Identical, even in all the writing they have on them, still made in Hungary, just doesn't have the 'Volvo' brand on it.

    Thanks guys!!

Most likely Fuel pump relay. Change it yourself, see link. Part is about $60.

Sweet. Thank you. This one is a lot easier to get at than the one on my old 240.

My relay doesn't have the red marker-stripe on it. I'm going to guess this means it's non-original?

The numbers on it seem to suggest that the relay I have in hand was made in 1998.

If there are no stored codes, suspect the fuel pump relay of going bad. It is #103 in the fuse tray.

      Car is Stalling 850 1993

In regard to the stalling... my "93 850 is doing the same thing intermittently... twice today.... second time wouldn't restart right away... and would not
start for me this afternoon after idling for about 5 minutes. Tried codes and got 1-1-1 for A-2.
I found the switch under the fuses... Klaus C, do you think that it might be the fuel pump relay for
me also? I replaced the fuel pump last week... feel like an idiot... has made a little difference but not much and the car is now really acting up.

      regards

1-1-1 is the all clear so I would suspect the relay as you don't have any stored codes.

Do this as Klaus suggested I do...

        http://www.brickboard.com/AWD/index.htm?id=1265592

I jumped the relay as suggested in that page and ran the car for 32 minutes without any issues.
To find the relay follow the link in one of the other posts an my question.

        Goodluck!

      Klaus,

Thank you for the quick response.

Is there any way to test this little bugger (resistance/shorted out)? Or is it just a 'replace and see what happens kinda deal'?

Just recently I turned the car on and let it sit and idle for about 10 minutes (as I refilled the a/c). It stalled twice during this time.
Now the car will turn off after about 2 seconds. The longer I let it sit, the longer it'll run until it stalls again. I'm beginning to like the relay hypothesis.
