Hi all,
I'm just wondering if anyone has ever figured out what causes the FOB remote for the 850 late 940 to fail? Can they be repaired? I now have five of the damn things and none will work...even with new batteries. As the car is a '97, I wonder is it worth going to the dealer again for a new one. I bought two on eBay (at different times) but they only seemed to work for about six months. Any thoughts?

So is the fix to add more antenna to the sucker or to replace the transceiver (both?) I have the same issue and I thought it was just a bad design on Volvo's part.

I read it to mean: adding wire can boost the distance on a functioning unit, but that if it didn't work when you were close to the car, the transceiver was dead.

EDIT - I'm parting out a 94 850, if you need a transceiver.

You can try reprogram your remote. Not sure that works but who knows...

with the ignition key inserted,turn the key 5 times from off position to the ON position(NOT THE CRANKING POSITION)!...within 1sec. between turns...ending in the ON position,but make sure u have the remote next to u...press the unlock button and hold down for at least 5seconds as closed to the steering wheel as possible as soon as the 5th turn is done ending in the ON position..Note:all doors,lids,trunk and the interior dome lights must be closed and off before reprogramming!!!Now,let go of the unlock button,turn ignition key off,wait 10 seconds,before pressing any remote buttons,cross your fingers, see if remote works.............
Remember that all interior lights are off especially the one's u can't see like the trunk light.
