2011 S60 S60 1998

Have you folks seen the new 2011 S60? Only one model - T6. Starting price $37,700 USD. What is up with that? No more 5 cylinder engines? The XC90 is the same starting price! The S80 starts at $39,200 USD. I don't get this strategy. I miss the bricks.

    2011 S60 - sleek car but seriously expensive S60 1998

The 2011 is a sleek car, but Klaus is right, the rear visibility is dangerously restricted, similar to many many other sedans today. At $37,000+, Volvo is trying to play in the BMW 3-series, Mercedes C-class, and Audi 6 category. The Volvocars.com web page is terrible - slow loading.

      2011 S60 - auto transmission only? S60 1998

Unless I missed something, it appears to have auto trans. only in USA. So no, they are not playing in the Audi and BMW category, both of whom still offer manual transmissions for their sports sedans.

Volvo USA thinks that the new design is worth the price. I do not like cars with extra large C pillars and up sweeping rear fenders that block all visibility from the driver's seat. Little children will hate it more so because they cannot see out of the windows. No wonder DVD players are such a hit.

I will not buy an S60 or XC60. I want to be able to see what is around my car without relying on radar sensors to beep and flash lights when a car is in the extended blind spot. Or backing up.

If you want engine choices, live in Europe.

    Klaus
