HELP: 5 speed, is it worth it V70-XC70 1998

In the Twincities Craigslist:

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ank/cto/1849348198.html

1998 with 200K miles. Cloth interior, manual climate control, and the tranny 'stuck' in gear???

Any people with 5 speed experiance give me an opinion.

HELP: 5 speed, is it worth it V70-XC70 1998

Stuck in gear is a strange issue on one of these cars . . . If the whole tranny needs a rebuild, that could be pricey. I have never had a manual Volvo tranny get stuck in a gear. Could be a blown slave cylinder or an utterly frozen throwout bearing as cheaper options, but the extremely vague description on craigslist doesn't help any either.

I agree with the other poster--those look like steelies with wheel covers. Probably a base model V70.

HELP: 5 speed, is it worth it - hard to know what they mean V70-XC70 1998

"Stuck in gear." From the scanty description, it is hard to tell what is wrong. What is it with Craigslist and the 1-sentence listings you see there? The blue is a handsome color. I don't recall alloy wheels like that, so they may be steel with wheel covers. The cloth interior will probably look better than an equivalent age leather interior.

My daughter's car is a 1999 V70 NA with 5-speed, 80,000 miles, purchased new. When brand new, the shift linkage was very stiff, but it has become smoother with age. When cold, we sometimes had to shift into neutral, then carefully move it into gear. We changed gear oil at about 40,000 miles with the stock Volvo synthetic oil, so it's time for another change soon. To me, the clutch has a nice engagement and is easy to modulate.

Please let us know the diagnosis if you inspect the car.
