new noise V70-XC70 2001

my 2001 V70 base model w/auto trans, this weekend started a new noise. when accelerating slowley or starting to accelerate from a steady speed say 50 mph and slowly push on the throttle there is a deep "bwaaah" sound that goes away if i step on it or back off. I checked at the end of the exhaust by putting a gloved hand over it and found no leak.

This sounds to me like an air intake sound so i removed the air filter (K&N) and cleaned it for the first time in 40,000mi. I cant think of other things to check, any ideas?

thanks
Bobd

It is a gross air leak! Check the accordian portion of the intake pipe and see if it has a crack or loose fitting.

Remove the cover on the throttle and inspect the tubing for the idle air control and the vacuum tree.
