Just joined the FWD world from my 744 and 965 Volvos with an '01 S60 T5.

On the drive home from purchase (and clueless owner) the "!" warning light came on amber with a Message saying "Service Engine" text message.

No other lights or codes.

I assume this is the same as the Service light in my 965 (which had a mechanical button one pushed to extinguish the light and reset the warning period), but can find no reference to the procedure in the Owner's Manual (which simply says to do what the message says: Duh!. Why do they treat us like idiots?)

Is there a way to cancel the message? (The "Reset" button on the left stalk does not reset the light or the message).

I must have used poor search terms and missed this thread.

I tried the simplest first: Hold mileage reset while moving key through No I to No II, then off.

Didn't work, so the next cycle I just held it longer in II and bingo, it was gone!

Not as satisfying as pressing the mechanical switch in the 965, but time marches on! Wish I could find a nice, low mileage 945 Turbo... Oh well.
