Mysterious no start V70-XC70

My new-to-me 1998 V70 XC has been a champ for three months until last night. Warm weather (75) and I stopped the car after 5 minutes of driving! No start - turn over - but no start. Tried for 30 minutes on and off to start. Tow trunk comes - he tries to start it. Nuttin. Sent to my fav shop - this morning car starts up fine! They can't find a problem. My thought is a fuel injection relay - intermittant! Have one on the way from FCP - for $44 bucks I'll throw that at the car as preventative maint!

Any other ideas! I had them charge my AC (was not working when I bought the car in March) Seems to be holding a charge so maybe I avoided the dreaded AC evaporator replacement!

Let me know what else to look for! Random failure drive you crazy! On my 94 I had PCP switch that caused a no start - but that was no crank too!

Bob - saw a beautiful teal 94 850 sedal with only 100K for $1600 on Cincy Craig's - wish I had the dough for that one too! I got 2000 invested in the 98, so I have to stick with it!

I would be worried about a break in a vac/pcv line. Probably time to start checking all that stuff.

    Hi,

The camshaft position sensor is a suspect. Did you pull the codes? The sensor will set a code, even if the lamp is off.

      Mysterious no start V70-XC70

Am replacing the relay FI this week. I actually have two brand new Volvo cam sensors in a box that I got off ebay for my 850s a few years back - a two for deal - and they have been sitting in my parts box. Same part number. Like a dumb-butt, I changed the rear cams seals in March and thought about putting a new one on, but didn't. I assume my garage checked codes again, as the only code it has is an upstream O2 sensor. I want to do that when I get an extra 125 bucks too. Also thought about replacing temp sensor pre-emptievly too. I just changes plus, cap rotor etc in March. My garage could not get it to replicate the no-start. Just drove it home and had no issues and the air now works so far!!! Crossing my fingers that it keeps an AC charge all summer!
