Volvo Open House STINKS!!! V70-XC70 1998

I attended my first Volvo Open House this past weekend. Let me tell you what stinks about it: IT'S THE LAST ONE ON THE EAST COAST!!!

I just bought my car a few months ago and have been smiling ever since. My wife's convinced I'm having an affair (I'm smiling all the time, I leave early on Saturday mornings to go off and meet other "volvo" people, well, you get the idea).

So I go to the Volvo open house, have a blast, only to find out that Volvo will not hold this event next year when HQ is moved to CA. Grrrr.

Here's a thought, why not hold this event on each coast every other year. AFterall, Volvo will still have a presence at this location.

As understanding as she is, I don't think my wife's going to go for it when I tell her I'm going to drive to CA to meet "other Volvo people" next year.

Come on.... Pleeeez!

Re: Volvo Open House STINKS!!! V70-XC70 1998

I have read (Autoweek maybe) that Volvo is moving to California.

I wonder if it was planned before Ford purchase? Lots of design

work is done in Southern California and many car companies want

a presense in the Southern California area.

I hope they continue the Open Houses on the west coast. And,

since the last 10 or so were on the East coast I say do the

next 10 here then start swapping :)

Re: Volvo Open House STINKS!!! V70-XC70 1998

A few months ago, I posted the question if anyone had heard that VCNA was moving to CA. Since I live in the city that has the HQ of VTNA I know quite a few people who were once in Rockleigh that transferred here. Anyhow no one responded but I guess your post confirms it. Did anyone say why Ford is moving VCNA to CA? The word down here is that they dont think many of the NJ employees will want to move, thus creating a new young work force. Anyhow, hate I missed the last open house.

Part ofthe reaosn is that Lincoln and Aston Martin are already there (I believe that Mazda are too) and they plan to move all of Jaguar there too, if they haven't already. Then the entire Premier Automotive Group would be based in So. Cali. The majority of the Rockleigh, NJ employees (not the "road" positions) did not accept the offer to move to California. I would in a heartbeat! :)

Have to agree with you, an offer to transfer to S Calif would probably be a serious consideration when hanging in NJ. I do hate it for those displaced workers, however. Our company was purchased about two years ago..very different now.

Adam, say it isn't so! Did you hear this at the weekend?

This was my first event also and I'm glad I didn't put it off this time, cause it was a real nice day and I was thinking of taking the wife's 240 next year. Damn!!

I think your idea to continue is a good one except the Ford people have the last word and perhaps the custom needs to be continued by another group. This reminds me that Judy asked why we don't belong to the Volvo Club of America and I didn't have an answer.

    Things to ponder till '01
