This is the car with the big backfires that blew the oil filler cap off. The owner installed used (eBay) crankshaft position sensor and camshaft position sensor. The Fuel Pressure Regulator was leaking.
New FPR, compression is good, has spark on all five cylinders, compression is good on all cylinders, air cleaner is not full of mouse nests, fuel pressure is 44 psi while cranking, drops back to 40 psi, holds 39.5 psi for 20 minutes, new plugs, camshafts turn, no trouble codes, but the battery was disconnected to charge it. Unplugging the air flow meter makes no difference.
The engine might try to fire once in a while, but mostly nothing. The crankcase seems to have a lot of 'smoke' in it, even without the car running. Adding a tiny bit of oil to the cylnders does not make any difference, even after cleaning the oil off the plugs...
Can the timing belt jump and not tear the teeth off ? Is there a way to check the signal from the camshaft position sensor. I'm assuming that if the crankshaft position sensor was bad there would not be any spark ? What else ?
Thanks
Greg
