My Lambda Sound light came on...second from the bottom right. I don't know what it is for or the codes to turn it off. Thanks in advance.

I'm in the USA and my '93 854GLT, build date 7/93, does not have a Lambda Sond warning lamp. Second from bottom right is a "Check Engine" light. In any case, you'll have some stored fault codes in the on-board diagnostic system (OBD) that need to be retrieved and diagnosed.

it is called "Lamda Sond" not Lambda Sound...Lamda Sond is the sensor that is find in the 3-way catalytic converter of these cars; it was a first by Volvo and it was first implemented in 1976 (if I remember correctly). Its main function is that it eliminates about 95% of the regulated emmissions (HCs, NO and CO). Volvo has a long and admirable record in building environmentally sound and responsible cars (i.e., as of 1990 all Volvos are asbestos-free, as of 1991 all paints utilized at the factory are fre of toxic solvents since they switched to water-based paints, etc.)

I do not know the codes, perhaps a tech can answer that.

It's my belief, based on info in the "Pocket Data Booklet", that some paints are SOLVENT based and some are WATER based. This covers model years 1991-1998. Solvent based paints are toxic and water based paints are LESS toxic than solvent based paints, but still toxic.

The LAMBDA SOND, Swedish for Oxygen Sensor, is part of an emission control system. Some 850's have one sensor ahead of the cat, while others have two, one ahead and ond after the cat.

all Volvo paints are water based right now. Surely, as paints they must have some level of toxicity.

I am pretty sure that only some '93 850s had one sensor before thw catalytic converter. Later '93s and all models thereafter have had two.
