Protective Pad Under Front Hood - Rehabilitate Or Replace? 850 1995

Mine is dirty - is there any effective way to clean without disintegration?

There were a half-dozen at the junkyard, none looked any better than mine or I would've swapped.

thanks

What does this "protective pad" protect? I removed mine thinking the engine heat will dissipate faster without that insulation and be better for the engine parts like hoses that degrade faster due to the heat. I didn't notice any increase in noise either from inside the car. If there's a good reason for keeping it I'll reinstall it though.

Paint on your hood. It will get cooked in spots and then you have a visible problem. It has nothing to do with keeping heat in the engine bay, it reflects heat as well as noise.

If you engine bay is too hot, try flushing your intercooler/radiator with a hose and keeping the fins clean. Amazing how much dirt is in there.

Google 'car hood insulation' and start looking.

You could try an all purpose cleaner like 409 and a small piece of old damp towel. Don't use a garden hose spray, the water will fill up the sparkplug holes :)

There are aftermarket insulated hood covers that stick on, forever, and look nice. Then you are left with wiper washer tubes dangling down.

Do you know who makes one? Don't see one at IPD
