Hi Klaus:Won't start, must be a Volvo bug going around. Bigger problem now 2000 xc. Will not engage starter. Volvo replaced 2 years ago. Bat and charging system good.Running 14v, bat 13.6 drops when off, to 11.5 for split second when cranks and starts right up when it works. Tried in P...N... nogo, the start safety switches should be ok. Volvo said that both would not be bad at the same time. Problem is intermittent,Volve said that they can only ck when malfunctioning.
Said could be antenna ring (CAN I CK), or starter or connections to starter do to location all the dirt from the fans hit it. Usually a after a couple of tries with the key, or it sits, it will start. Wife go stuck a few times, not happy. I haven't had an opportunity to see if a smack with a hammer would fix it. I noticed a spring/boing noise from the camp under the pass seat as you turn the key just before the starter engages or should engage. I assume this is ok, or is it an indicator of something. It's a bear to get at things on this engine! I'm planning on checking the fittings to the stater. Any ideas? Could this be a bad ground, like from a battery cable or a ground strap to the engine. I've seen this happen on other cars. Is there a fuse or fusible link that would create this?
