Oil in the coolant 850

When coolant and oil mix it's usually a real bad sign. Isn't it? Usually a head gasket is blown and the mixture begins. Only problem is my '95 850T is running perfectly. If I have a bad head gasket, wouldn't the engine run rough from low compression? There is no coolant in the oil, or none that I can see.

One morning after about five 15-degree days, the frothy brown residue was noticeable in the coolant reserivor. It's not much, maybe 1 tablespoon. The only other place I can think that these liquids would mix is in the radiator.

I replaced the original 4 years ago with a Nissin from IPD. Was my purchase a huge mistake? Isn't a radiator supposed to last longer than 4 years?

Has anyone else had this problem?

Sounds like radiator leak to me also. Nissens is a good brand, so I wonder what kind of antifreeze you used and did you use distilled water (of course you did).

Usually, some antifreeze will get into the oil also just because after engine shut down, the coolant is under much more pressure than the oil. Have a shop check for antifreeze in the oil.

Get a compression check with a warmed up engine.

+1 on the compression test or a leak-down test. You don't know whether anything is wrong or not unless it's tested.

What kind of coolant did I use?...the green kind! I believe it's Prestone from Wal-Mart. I was in a very small town when I did the repair.

Four years back when I knew it needed replacing, I had read posts on this site that Nissin wasn't the best product you could buy. When I called IPD, they stood buy the product even tho they sold other brands. Now, IPD only sells a Cyromax. Do you think they soured on Nissin? Can't believe I have to make the repair again!!!!

Would I get a code for low compression?

You can have low compression without a misfire and all will appear fine.

Just because it is green does not make it compatable with a cast aluminum block and radiator.

Just checked...coolant is compatible with ALL aluminum block engines. I'm on the phone with IPD now.
