XC70 Won't start!!! Help V70-XC70 1999

Hey guys and gals:

1999 XC70 won't start. Started up and quit and now just turns over and over and over. Pulled the cover off the coils and pulled one out and turned it and I've got a nice spark. Went to the fuel injector rail and hit the bleed valve and plenty of gas. Checked all the fuses (especially the fuel pump and injector fuse) and nothing. Can ANYBODY give me any other suggestions. It just seems like something came lose (wire) or something got disconnected but I've looked everywhere and I come up empty. Am I missing something?? Appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks!!

Henry

I have a 98 V70 XC and the cam sensor went bad on it. Do you get a code for anything at all ?
I have a code reader and it sensed it right away.

Several possibilities, but first turn off the cabin blower and the radio and the lights. No need to run your battery down any more than necessary.

If the engine just died immediately after start, it could be a dying cam position sensor. Try tapping it with a screwdriver handle, lightly. It is located on the exhaust cam closest to the firewall.

It could also be the security ring behind the key switch. For this, you will have to remove the plastic from around the steering column to gain access. Replacing it does not require reprogramming.

Both of the items above turns off spark. You say there is spark, so how long did your engine run before it quit? Could you have lawnmower syndrome?

      Hey Klaus:

It ran for about 30 seconds and quit. Turned it over a few times and did get a spark a couple of times on the #1 plug. What is lawnmower syndrome? Never heard of that one.

LMS refers to moving the car just enough to get the mower out of the garage. Running the cold engine just a few seconds and turning it off, washes the cylinders with extra gasoline, which removes the oil on the rings among other things.

The easiest way to restart is to engage the starter about 30 seconds, with the gas pedal flat on the floor to clean out the cylinders of gasoline. Then another 30 seconds with the foot off the gas pedal. When the engine begins to fire, it will sputter, let it run for at least 2-3 minutes before turning it off.

If it is an electrical problem, like the security ring or the cam sensor, the car will not start until those are repaired.
