Procedure question related to auto tranny fluid change 99 S70 AWD

The procedure outlined on Bay 13 for a 1999 S70 AWD 4 speed auto transmission fluid change states that the top line is easier to remove, but if done that way the fluid in the cooler does not get replaced. Two questions come to mind:

1) Can the same procedure be followed by removing the lower hose, there by flushing the cooler as well? How much additional fluid would be required - one quart?

2) If the lower line is removed, can a funnel be attached to the line - back to the transmission - and be filled with fluid to replace the fluid coming out of the radiator lower attachment. Does the transmission actively pump in fluid via the lower line?

Finally, once the line is removed from the radiator, is the original clamp replaced with a new hose clamp or can the factory clamp be reused. (I would suspect replacement but not clear).

Thank you in advance.

Oliver

NO.

NO.

Don't worry about the less than a cup of tranny fluid in the cooling system, use the top line.
You MUST pour the new ATF in through the dipstick hole. Get a long, thin neck funnel for that purpose.
The battery tray does not need to be removed. Just pull the air intake duct away from the air cleaner and then back from the radiator to give yourself plenty of room.
The tranny pump is a gravity system, it pumps ATF to the radiator and gravity lets it run back to the tranny. There is no suction on the bottom line.

If the metal clamp is all rusty, get a new one from your local dealer. Otherwise, don't remove it from the hose. Just back the clamp down the hose a little. When putting the hose back on, make sure the clamp is in the same position on the hose as it was originally.

NEVER pump more than 2 quarts out at a time. And, yes, it does take a long time to pour 2 quarts through the funnel :) Patience, the whole flush procedure only takes 30 minutes.

Procedure question related to auto tranny fluid change 99 S70 AWD V70-XC70 1999

Hi Oliver,

Have done this on my 99 v70 fwd. Bay 13 suggests using the bottom line, but this requires removing the battery. Using the top line leaves a minimal amount of old fluid in the radiator. I didn't try flushing the cooler because I didn't want to mess with the lower transmission line-- you could probably try flushing it separately using gravity, but I somehow suspect this may be ineffectual.

You will have to fill through the dipstick, and there are no hose clamps-- this is an o-ring fitting with a squeeze release mechanism-- it just clicks back in place once you've removed it.

I found the top line was a better system-- it's messy enough without having to get so deep in the engine compartment, just watch out for the orings on the top line-- they can be easily damaged when you slip the clear tubing over the fitting.

have a good time;)
