Well thanks for everyones help. I sold my S70 yesterday and bought a 2005 Volvo S40 2.4i .......turns out my S70 needed a CAT and it would have been $1,000+ so i couldnt keep throwing money at it.

now the proud owner of a S40!

It may be worth it to get the special wrench and unscrew both 02 sensors, clean the threads, and re-installing. That cured an 02 sensor code on mine--apparently there was just enough corrosion to make for a bad connection, which of course read as a defective sensor.

What kind of a shop did you go to? There is no 'mainstream O2 sensor,' just a front and/or rear O2 sensor.

Before plunking down hard earned dollars to fix it, I would first look for any vacuum leaks around the intake manifold. Any small air leak will cause the engine to run rich and foul the O2 sensor.

It is OK to drive the car in this condition. Just a word of warning, if you keep the rpms below 2,000 you might have the engine stall at idle speed because of dirty plugs.
