It may have been me, I honestly don't remember =). The later year differences are hard to keep track of though! Everything before that was the same. A 99 had the 4-speed with "adaptive learning mode" controlled by the electronic throttle where the car would learn your driving style instead of having the S/E switches the earlier Volvos had. After 2000, they dumped the outdated 4-speed to replace it with the ridiculously fragile 5-speed in all the cars.
I use this fluid in my 98:
Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF
Which is a fully synthetic fluid that says it's compatible with JWS 3309 as well. I haven't TRIED it in one of those transmissions myself, but I am happy with the results from my car, and have heard of others using it in their 5-speeds with good results.
My last flush I did with 7 qts of cheap Advance Auto store-brand Dex-III, and the final 5 ones ran through the expensive Mobil fluid and filled it with the Mobil. Random ratio, but that's all the store had of the Mobil fluid, and it's expensive. I'm not sure what % of what is in there, but I'd think it's mostly the Mobil. I will be doing another flush once spring gets around and all this stupid snow gets off the ground (which could well be June with the amount we keep having dumped on us).
