text window messages V70-XC70 2003

Volvo V70 (2003)- Both text messages from the trip computer and warning messages have stoped being displayed in the text window. Any thoughts on how to diagnose and fix the problem?

Ouch. The dealer will want to replace the DIM, driver information module, for around $1200.

Messages occasionally are now displayed in the text window. Usally after a cold start although the problem was still there this morning. After driving a few miles the text window again goes blank. Any thoughts?

My wife's 2001 Audi does a similar thing, but only when the display gets warm. The only fix is to replace the LED window, which is the entire DIM at a cost of around $1,000. So we ignore it, and any messages that could come up.

Try closing the vent next to the window and see if being colder longer makes the message window display for an additional time. I am afraid that as Spring arrives, the temp will keep the display from showing up.

The 2003 V70 is very prone to this break down for the DIM. Volvo's attitude toward any item on the car malfunctioning AFTER the warranty period seems to be 'too bad, it lasted long enough for us.'
