96 850 All dash warining lights flash on for a second 850

The past few (cold) mornings I've noticed all the dash warning lights flash on for about a 1/2 second then go out. This happens a few times until the car warms up. I don't notice any hiccups in the power or electrical system when it occurs. I really don't notice any differences at all when they flash. It's just like when you first turn the key to start the car, but the key is in the drive position when this happens. I haven't noticed any problems with the ignition switch, would this would seem to relate to.
Has this happened to anyone else? Any fix?

Hi, in my 850-94 flashing dash lights were clearly caused by worn out alternator brushes. occured mostly with warm engine at stop light. mine was bosch, thus easy and cheap repair by renewing the voltage regulator.

Alarming, isn't it? This happened for a split second on my '95 850T when I went through a deep puddle, which I believe was the serp belt slipping when doused with water.

Klaus gave a more complete troubleshooting guide beyond the serp belt. Good luck.

First check the serpentine belt that drives the alternator. If it is shiney, it is time to replace it.

Also check the negative cable on the battery, it needs to be clean and tight.

Last possibility is the ignition switch. Make sure you don't have a heavy key chain.
