removal of 850 Heater Control Unit

Does anyone have any tips on removing the 850 heater control unit? I got the stereo down pat, I'm just stuck on the heater control unit. S70's you just pop 'em from the back but on the 850 I'm stumped.

Same as the S70, just pull! Keep one hand on the front of the unit, it tends to come out really fast.

Removal of ENTIRE 850 Heater Control Unit 850 1997

The stem on the driver side heater control unit no longer turns (I had been adjusting it with a pair of pliers) and I am likely going to need to replace the whole unit -- not just the front panel that the knobs attach to. I went to the junkyard yesterday and found a unit (which looked identical to the one I have) in a 95 donor, and was able to remove the outer plate, however the unit that the stem is connected to is of course behind that, and there are a few springclips (from what I could tell in the dusklight) and maybe a hose or two connected to that part of the unit. It was a bear just trying to move it around inside of the dash, even with the radio taken out. Anyone have any tips on removal of the ENTIRE heater control unit?
