rear wheel alignment qurestion 850 R97

My right rear tire looks like it "toe's in", as the top part of the tire seems to lean towards the center of the car. Is this an alignment problem that can be corrected? Could it be a suspension problem and maybe something got bent? The tire doesn't seem to be wearing differently but it looks weird from the rear. Should I worry about it?

I've noticed all 800/70 series look like this. The rear

tires do toe-in a bit. The rear track is also narrower

then the front making them appear to "crab" down the

road (just something else I have observed following other

Volvos -- wagons seem to look like this the most).

The only way to be sure is by doing a 4 wheel alignment.

That'll determine if it's just an optical illusion of not. If rear camber is out of specs, you may need new rear trailing arms which don't come cheap. They're about $400 each and about 7-8 hours labor to replace. I've done that to a few 850s over the years and I'm never exactly sure how or why they're bent but I can usually see them slightly bowed too when I get a car like that as new ones are perfectly straight.

Re: rear wheel alignment qurestion 850 96 R

My 96 850 R looks the same way. In fact, I just replaced the rear tires and the inside tread was noticeably more worn than the outside.

I've seen lots of BMWs that do this and almost wondered if it was designed that way.

Anyways, I keep a good 4 wheel alignment on the car (check 2-3 times a year), and it still looks this way.

dunno man - don't want to replace the trailing arms...that's for sure. Cheaper to buy new tires......i'd say they lost about 3000k miles from this wear....which ain't bad considering how soft the asymmetrico rubber is.
