ABS warning light 850 1996

Does anybody know how to get the ABS light to turn off? (Without ripping the wire out) And how to fix it?

There is a general ABS write up at the link below, may help to determine what your problem could be as well as the solutions.

Re: ABS warning light 850 1996

On '96s only, there was once a SB on how to remove 4 known to be bad wire crimp connectors under the fusebox and re-do them. I think the SB still exists but it's something that only a seasoned dealer tech would know about as it's not common anymore, most were fixed before. I still occasionally see one though, like I just fixed one last week.

I'm sorry to say that I don't have the SB # handy at the moment but the fusebox must be loosened (relays under dash removed), fuse box pulled up, old connectors cut and then I solder the wires. This applies to '96s only.

The bad connections also cause codes for front wheel sensors but those aren't the problem. The codes will need to be cleared too. It's about a 1-2 hour job depending on the experience of the person doing it.

Re: ABS warning light 850 1996

Frank,

I have a 96 850 Wagon. At about 15,000 miles, the ABS light came on and the ABS would activate intermittently, on the lightest of braking. Dealer said that some connectors in the ABS system had to be soldered as part of a service bulletin. They did it and haven't had a problem since (with the ABS, that is).

This corroborates your rememberance.

Could bad wire crimp connectors cause abs systems to malfunction and activate? 850 1996

Searching for possible causes for the abs system malfunctions including activation in non-abs driving situations. Already had the abs unit replaced 35,000 miles ago.
