i bought what I thought was a great 850T last week 850

So, i bought what I thought was a great 850T last week and after having the safety done today I find out the thing is losing oil. The mechanic said he wasn't sure where from, but at first glance said it looks like the Turbo. He suggested I have the engine cleaned to pin point where the leak was coming from. When I asked what if it was the turbo he seemed to think it was not worth the repair cost. So, what the hell am I up against? Do I cut my losses and get rid of the car quick? It has passed safety and e test, has 260k kms and all in all seems a good car, minus the leak. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

In addition to the other good suggestions, I wonder if a new mechanic is in order? Your current one does not sound very familiar with the car you are driving.

    Good luck.

If you didn't live so far away, I'd say sell it to me. I would replace the turbo oil return seal and gasket and then sell it for a good profit! The 2 parts are about $10CDN, a good Volvo mechanic can do it in less than 30 minutes.

The turbo should last longer than the engine, and when it goes bad it will let you know! The noise will wake the dead.

hahah Thanks for the reply Klaus. I was getting freaked out this afternoon thinking it was the RMS. I've done some research and have contacted the PO and he says it's the oil line like you've suggested. I've got a ton to learn about these cars!! Know where I can find some good diagrams, how-to etc. online? I can't find a thing in this Haynes manual. I've gotten pretty good at diagnosing and repairing the 240. How difficult is it to replace the parts you mentioned in my driveway, in the snow? Provided that's what it is.

      Thanks Again,
      Matt

This is a good place to start:

Save the Haynes for suspension and interior stuff.

Working in the snow is no fun, the knuckles tend to hurt after a while besides it is going to get really cold soon. I strongly reccomend a good Volvo indie to do this simple task and give the car a good check up.

When you get tools, get a Torx combination tool. It is foldable and will fit in the glove box or center console. You will find it invaluable and cheap.
