Heater Blower 850

A couple of months ago my Blower would run constantly with or without the ignition on. It turned out to be the Resistor.

The blower motor squeals like a pig from time to time.....

Today the blower motor will not come on and both the REC & AC lights are blinking on the Climate Control Module. Checked the fuses and they are good.

Any suggestions?

Mine used to squeel a bit at certain speeds until I took the motor apart and oiled the bushings and loosened the brush wire connections. Very easy procedure if you're handy with a soldering iron.

That noise you hear when the fan is on is its cry of death! When you initially start the car, the ECC turns the fan on high for a few seconds to see if it is operational.
You could also have clogged cabin temp sensors.

I still have the Glove Box out from when I changed the Resistor... If I start the car with the fan in the Off postion, and then turn the fan on I can hear the relay latch...

Where do I find the cabin temp sensors?

The cabin temp sensors are behind the grab handles above both front doors, the plastic covers for the screws are hinged and either go up or down so pry carefully.

If the blower no longer works at high speed, you will need a replacement motor. The blower cage is pressed on to the shaft, the staples on the cage are for balancing(?). Or spend big bucks and get the entire assembly which is easy to replace.

If your car has a cabin filter, get a replacement. If there is no filter, order a filter and filter holder.

There's a temp sensor up behind each of the handles above the front doors. They have a small fan that pulls air in through a small hole past a small fragile termistor. Pry out the plastic cover and use some canned air to blow out the dust. Take care not to damage the thermistor.

Are you sure the blower is not working?

If the climate control is left in a certain state (auto vent, auto fan) the computer does a check at start up. If it detects a fault, it blinks the lights and disables the 'auto' fan setting - you then need to manually set the fan speed.... could this be what's happening to your car?

Next time this happens try setting the fan speed manually.

Is there a method to put power to the Blower to see if works? Or a way to measure the voltage going to the motor which would validate everything up to the Motor is functioning and therefore the Blower must be shot....
